in february 09, less than a month after president barack obama had been inaugurated as president and another man that has attacked us came to the congressional office here on capitol hill and said i'm one of the people that beat you. will you forgive me? i want to apologize. his son had been encouraging to see killed the people that he had attacked. i said yes i accept your apology. i forgive you. his son started crying and he started crying, i started crying. he gave me a hug and i hugged him back. i have seen him three of her times. he called me brother and i called him brother. that is what the movement was about, reconciliation. this book is about reconciliation. [applause] we are one people, we are one family, we are one house. we must be reconciled. of those of us who live here in america, those of us who live here on this piece of real estate were born to live together as brothers and sisters. the late a. philip randolph, who was the dean of the civil rights movement and black leadership, who had of the idea about the march on washington almost 50 years ago said from time to t

obama, the obama campaign was running ads on that. how romney wants to cut the taxes as romney explained very clearly in the debate the other night, no, i am not cutting taxes on the richest. what i want to do is lower rates overall by 20%. and eliminate loopholes, deductions, exemptions, that sort of thing. which i think all serious people who look at the tax code think needs to be done. it's the richest of all by the way who take the most advantage of tax deductions. that is a fairer way of looking at t maybe if you have a lot of deductions you don't want to get rid of them. but you always feel like with reductions, somebody else is getting a better deal than you are. mitt romney hasn't specified which deductions. i can think of a few we should get rid of like deductions for state and local taxes. why should the rest of the country be supporting the high tax rates of california and new york? but anyway, that's my position, not mitt romney's and he also explained in the debate, this is my general proposal. we'll argue about it. we'll

president obama did not win the first debate against mitt romney. whether or not you're happy about that, he didn't win. but if your takeaway from this conspiracy theory in this debate is the reason the president didn't win is because mitt romney cheated, then what is the utility of that theory for you? what is the utility of that information? how do you think president obama should then prepare for the second debate? should he just do exactly what he did this past wednesday night, except keep a closer eye out for the cheating because that is the only reason he lost? i mean, it may be comforting to tell yourself this is what really went wrong here but that is not really what went wrong here, and making the case that it was what went wrong does not help your candidate. the worst example of this though, the invention of a comforting new parallel reality that does not mean you have to face hard truths. the worst new instance of this is how the right today responded to the new jobs numbers. today the unemployment rate dropped from 8.1% to 7.8%. it didn'

you mentioned appealing president obama's health care reform law. that is something that will continue to be hotly debated. we have two more debates left. there is a lot of uncertainty about not only what obamas's second term will look like, but what a mitt romney first term will look like as he takes the white house in november. host: an e-mail sent from ohio. isn't the question of wages more important than jobs? the person making minimum wage is no better off and someone receiving welfare. to the point about wages, what do we find out there from the release of the report? guest: i do not know the exact details of the report in terms of wages going up or down. he makes a good point. wages are important. welfare is something that president obama and mitt romney have been trading barbs over as to whether the president is someone capable of turning this country into a place where people do not have to rely so much on government subsidies because they are out of work. i think that issue is very politically charged and we will see it debated in the comi
